As with many of Lapsley’s compositions, he captures the joy of innocent play through the actions of the figures of this small oil painting of young children. As a native of Selma, the artist painted activities that he saw daily in that rural Southern community. Several of his compositions point of view is from above looking down, a reflection of the fact that his studio was an upper room in his family home, and he saw much life and activity from his windows looking down on the surrounding environment.
