This distinctive, apple-green ground color, named after the celebrated "pomme verte" of the Sèvres French manufactory, was frequently used at the Worcester factory. The color, introduced in the late 1760s, is opaque and applied thickly. Since gold could not adhere to this ground color, the gilding only follows the outline of the apple-green and never overlaps it.
