From the series, Les Bacchanales or Les jeux de satyres
Fragonard went to Naples in 1761 to see excavations of classical sites at Herculaneum. There he saw fragments of bas-relief sculpture representing satyrs at play, which is the source for the imagery in Dance of the Satyrs.
