Andy Warhol (1928–1987) The Pop Art world revolved around Warhol at dizzying (often drug- and alcohol-induced) speed. He made more than 200 films, many of which are shorts like his 228 four-minute Screen Tests. He is perhaps best known for predicting fifteen minutes of fame for everyone. Over the course of his career, Warhol transformed contemporary art, erasing distinctions between fine art and popular culture. Karsh commented: “Restless, curious, he photographed me, my assistant, the landmark mansion across the street.” The unused paintbrush in Warhol’s hand seems like a superfluous prop for the multi-talented artist-entrepreneur whose primary tool was his own odd personality.
