Allan D'Arcangelo
American, 1930–1998
Pop artist Allan D'Archangelo depicts the universal imagery of "highway culture" with sharp edges and controlled color boundaries. Within this color silkscreen he has placed a girded water tower in th middle of an unelaborated vista. The tower dramatically plunges back to a vanishing point, but the horizon line is kept as hard as the foreground. The effect is that of an optical illusion; the tower appears at once to saor into the sky and at the same time, to be as flat as the paper on which it is printed.
