"New Blue Trio with Red" displays its maker’s fascination with ancient and traditional forms—the lekythos, a Greek ceremonial vessel for oils or perfumes; the tazza, a Renaissance Venetian footed drinking cup; and the footed flask referencing Roman glass and Renaissance pilgrim flasks—all reworked with a modernist bent and in daringly vibrant color combinations. Their appearances are likewise somewhat deceptive: they look fragile and top heavy, yet all three are sturdy and well-balanced; their colors look opaque but under dramatic and focused light are as translucent as a stained-glass window.
