Worcester Porcelain Factory
English, born established 1751
The ability of Worcester's porcelain to withstand hot liquid without cracking gave the factory a monopoly in making tea services. By about 1762-65, the components of a tea set had become reasonably standardized and remained so until the middle of the nineteenth century.
Here, each fluted piece is white with a top border of deep royal blue with gold designs painted over it. Hand-painted garlands of flowers dip from the border. The overall pattern is associated with the fluted shapes and Neoclassical designs that evolved from Sevres from about 1775 onward.
