"Red/Clear/Aqua," a mirror smooth, symmetrical, and luminous vessel, epitomizes artist Sonja Blomdahl’s life-long explorations of form and color and her avoidance of a set color theory. As she explains, “I want the colors to glow and react. The clear band acts as an optic lens. It moves the color around [and] offers a look at the inside of the vessel.” To achieve this she employs the traditional Venetian "incalmo" (or “double-bubble”) technique. She blows three separate glass shapes of equal diameter, joins them while hot, and then blows the three-part form into one curvaceous and seamless vessel.
