Chinese Export
During the 18th century it was common for individuals or families to commission services of porcelain personalized with family coats of arms, crests and mottoes. Stock forms were generally decorated to order in Canton. This coffee pot has the arms of Panier of Franche-Comté. A variety of forms with these arms are known to exist and therefore it seems an entire dinner service was most likely commissioned. The silver mounts on the coffee pot were added in the nineteenth century.
