John Wagnon (aka Jake Wagnon)
American, born 1933
Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, John T. “Jake” Wagnon has a background in advertising and publishing and worked as both an editor of a humor magazine and an illustrator of editorial cartoons. After turning to fine art, Wagnon found his voice primarily as a painter yet he also draws and uses collage techniques and occasionally incorporates earlier artworks into new creations. The lively vibrancy of Wagnon's still life "Pearl Eggplant" perfectly sums up his philosophy regarding his art; he states, “Color is the actual subject of my paintings, no matter what the motif.”
