Edouard Manet
French, 1832–1883
Manet created an oil painting in 1861 inspired by a painting by the Spanish painter Bartolome Murillo (1618-1682).
This impression is an 1862 etched version of that composition. Apparently the subject was a popular one or important to Manet personally as he made a second version as a lithograph; the two printed versions were made six years apart. This impression is a posthumous one, printed in 1890.
