The "Tornadoes" series of drawings were created by David Maxim between 1999 and 2006, and were intended to extend the artist’s assessment of the power and majesty of the cosmos. The series, consisting of drawings of various tornado forms, was created using dry pastel and charcoal, manipulated with water, brushes, and the artist’s hands to create different textures and opacities.
