Robert Cottingham
American, born 1935
The color lithograph, Star, in the MMFA collection, is characteristic of Cottingham's work in its subject matter, bright color, and flattened spatial setting. The lithograph was printed and published by Fox Graphics and it is based on a gouache and several watercolor studies. An aquatint of the same image was produced before the lithograph and there also is an oil painting of the subject. The original composition for the print was vertical, but was altered to a square early on in the lithograph's creation.
