A successful yellow ground was difficult to achieve in the eighteenth century, making such pieces rare. The yellow-scale ground effect seen on this splate was not as popular as other colors, and this was produced only from about 1765 to 1770. This solid yellow ground is almsot almost always found in conjunction with exotic bird paintings within mirror-shaped panels.
