Jacqueline Kennedy (1929–1994) Jacqueline Lee Bouvier studied at Vassar College and the Sorbonne in Paris before graduating from George Washington University in 1951. She worked as a photographer and journalist before marrying Massachusetts Senator John F. Kennedy in 1953. Karsh photographed Kennedy’s fashionable young wife against a Coromandel screen at Hammersmith, her mother’s home in Newport, Rhode Island. The dark, ornate screen proved a fine compliment to her elegant gown and patrician features.
