Fred Webster was another West Alabama native who created a distinctive collection of carved compositions. Many of his works have religious or spiritual connotations, and "Headed Back to Alabama" follows that pattern. This piece also reflects the artist's whimsical sense of gentle humor. The following text is written in pencil on a block of wood painted white and affixed to the base of the sculpture at the lower left.

O LORD, MY LOVIN CRATURE
DELIVER ME FROM THIS GATOR
NO MORE, MOONSHINE, CHICKEN
STEALING AND THE CRAP GAME
NOT FOR ME. A BETTER MAN ISE
GWIM TO BE. PRAISE THE LORD
AND BLESS THE LAMD. ISE HEADED
BACK TO ALABAMA. (sic)
