This pattern of a long-tailed bird on a rock in brilliant turquoise, red, and yellow, called the Sir Joshua Reynolds pattern, is a direct copy of Japanese Kakiemon porcelain. It occurs on lobed plates and wide-fluted teawares. The connection between the name of the pattern and Sir Joshua Reynolds is unknown, although it is possible that he once owned pieces decorated with this design.
