Stephen Scott Young is a painter and printmaker who is known for his gouache and watercolor paintings in a realist style. He studied at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, and derives most of his subjects from observing the people of the Caribbean, and the area around Charleston, South Carolina. This painting in oil on panel replicates the process of his gouache works, in which he builds layers of pigment and glazing to produce a smooth, luminous surface.
