Raphael Soyer, since age 17, amswered the urge to draw and make prints in a realist style. Soyer is best known for the subjective realism of his portraits which reveal his sympathetic concern for individual personality. This intimate portrait of a young girl demonstrates Soyer's ability to discern nuances of felling and relate them visually. Modelling the girl's profile in tones of soft gray and white, soyer captures her introspective expression with a lithographic crayon and finely textured stone.
