"B1601 Ivory/Clear/Turquoise" is a modern Grecian-inspired vessel created by Blomdahl in 2001. The artist is a student of color theory and enjoys dismantling it through her work. By producing unusual color juxtapositions, she makes the viewer look deeply into the beauty of her piece and evaluate the role of color. While Blomdahl often works with contrasting and complementary bright colors, this piece is understated and calm in its creamy white and blue color scheme. This calmness reflects the process that Blomdahl used to create the vase. She is an expert in the use of the "incalmo" technique, an Italian glass-blowing procedure known also as the “double-bubble process.” Its translation is literally “in calm” which is appropriate since it demands complete focus, stability, and balance as the glassmaker blows two hot glass orbs of the same size to be immediately joined together. Blohmdal’s ability to focus, and her determination to succeed at this difficult technique, has led to beautiful works of art such as "B1601 Ivory/Clear/Turquoise."
