"Relinquishing All Reason" belongs to Richard Jolley’s totem series and presents a combination of humans, animals, globes, disks, and a whimsical allusion to a classical columnar form. Each of the elements is blown separately and the brilliant luscious colors are the result of applying melted canes of colored glass over clear glass as Jolley works his blow pipe. After these are annealed (the process of cooling glass slowly over a number of hours), he attaches them to each other with slow-set glue.
