Igor Stravinsky (1882–1971) Stravinsky studied law at St. Petersburg University and music under Rimsky-Korsakov. He began composing for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in Paris in 1910, later moving to Switzerland, then Paris, taking French citizenship in 1934. World War II forced him into another immigration, and he became an American citizen in 1945. Noted for his folk melodies, Stravinsky helped revolutionize modern music through The Firebird, Petrouchka, The Rite of Spring, and Orpheus.
