Worcester Porcelain Factory
English, born established 1751
Although it was probably the owner's decision whether a basket should be for fruit or purely ornamental, it is clear from the patterns used that most were made as accompaniments to dessert services. This basket, known as a chestnut basket, was probably intended for sugar and cream or sauce. Baskets such as these were made only from about 1768 to 1772. Its pierced form with twig handles and molded, encrusted flowers derives from examples from the Meissen German manufactory.
