Worcester Porcelain Factory
English, born established 1751
Blue-and-white ware made up a large portion of Worcester's production. The greatest number were decorated in Chinese-inspired styles to compete with porcelain exported from China, as illsutrated by this late First Period plate.
The basket is transfer printed in the Pine Cone pattern, which features a peony between two pine cones and a pomegranate. The design was used on a wide range of Worcester shapes during the 1770s, including plates, dishes, tureens, junket dishes, and round and oval baskets.
