Dishes modeled in the shape of leaves served many purposes, but generally small leaves were for pickles and larger leaves were part of dessert services. Most examples of this type of fig-leaf dish are painted in colors with green shaded edges, although some are painted in blue with Chinese-style rocks and peonies. Leaf dishes seem to have gone out of fashion after the 1780s.
