Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company
American
(Brooklyn, New York, 1902 – 1925)

The Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company was established in Brooklyn, New York by Martin Bach. Bach had been the first glass mixer employed at Tiffany's Corona (NY) furnaces in the early 1890s. He joined forces with a glass blower also formerly associated with Tiffany, Thomas Johnson, to begin production of Quezal glass in 1901. Throughout the history of production the Quezal company primarily used Tiffany designs and styles as inspiration. With the addition of two other former Tiffany employees in 1902, the Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company was incorporated.

The name "Quezal" that was signed on pieces made after 1902 was taken from quetzal, a Central American bird of brightly hued plumage. The name was meant to emphasize color as the basis for its glass decoration schemes, but the company never surpassed Tiffany in its use of color or finish. Johnson departed the firm in 1905 to join the Union Glass Company, but the firm continued to produce glass until it closed in 1925.
