Doyle Bourgeois Obituary - Father of Douglas Bourgeois
Doyle Adrian "Pomp" Bourgeois, a lifelong resident of St. Amant, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his residence on June 11, 2024 at the age of 96. He was married to Catherine Theresa Daigle, the love of his life, for 67 years until her death in 2017. He was a barber at Riverside Barber Shop until his retirement at age 64 and continued giving haircuts to those who were homebound. He also was a free-hand sign painter and calligrapher, often contributing his talent to charitable causes. As a lifelong parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, he served as an usher and was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a navy veteran in WWII and the Korean conflict, serving in the South Pacific. Doyle loved fishing and taking family camping trips. Always handy with tools, he would often take on carpentry projects around the house or spend time in his workshop repairing lawn mower and tractor engines. He also enjoyed building porch swings, garden caddies and other useful and decorative wooden items. He maintained a large vegetable garden and raised cattle, providing supplemental food for his family. He was also an avid LSU baseball fan, attending seasonal home games with Catherine and traveling to the college World Series. Doyle was a harmonica player and loved entertaining friends and family with his talent. He is survived by his children Douglas Bourgeois, Kevin Bourgeois and wife Martha, Jason Bourgeois and wife Lorna, Terry Bourgeois and wife Teresa, Ava Bourgeois Carbo and husband Dennis, and Martin Bourgeois and wife Georgann; grandchildren Sara Gordon, Vinny Bourgeois, Aaron Bourgeois, Nathan Bourgeois, Timothy Bourgeois, and Hannah Bourgeois. Preceded in death by his loving wife Catherine Daigle Bourgeois, parents Joseph Maurice and Elizabeth Mire Bourgeois, and siblings Dorothy Kaiser, David Bourgeois, Damian Bourgeois, Donald Bourgeois, Cecilia Lambert, Barbara Schexnaydre, Gabriel Bourgeois, Ralph Bourgeois, Bridget Sheets, Aelred Bourgeois, and Kenneth Bourgeois. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Ms. Lois Woods, Dr. Lisa Bayhi, Gail Keller, Stephanie LeBlanc and the staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their contributions to Doyle's care. Donations may be made in his name to the Capitol Area Alzheimer's Association or Holy Rosary Catholic Church. "A life that touches others goes on forever."
